- Take four images of a running or jumping figure using fast shutter speeds (faster than 1/250 second). Vary the direction of travel in relation to the camera and attempt to fill the frame with the figure. Examine the image for any movement blur and discuss the focusing technique used.
- Take four images of the same moving subject using shutter speeds between 1/15 and 1/125 second. Pan the camera to follow the movement. The primary subject should again fill the frame. Discuss the visual effect of each image.
The images below were all taken a night, using the flash of my camera. The real only blur is of the model's blonde hair or of the sparklers, though it is very faint and would not be noticeable unless you looked very close. This is because of the fast shudder speed I used. The focusing technique I used was decreasing the aperture f-number, so that more light could be let into the camera, so that I could take the photograph of her jumping, even with the flash on. This means that the background was out of focus.

The first image was taken with a bit of a faster shudder speed, closer to 1/125 rather than 1/15. Even though I did pan, it did not do make much of an effect. The background is slightly blurred, not like the other photos, but it still makes it seem like the model is moving, just slowly, even though she was moving fairly fast. The other three images were taken with a shudder speed around 1/15 or 1/20. By panning, I was able to keep the subject in focus while her background blurred heavily. This allows the photo to have a much bigger idea of motion, as if the model were traveling a lot faster than the first photo. Even if her wheels are blurred, or part of her legs, the photo continues to show her motion, because the background is unfocused and streaks with its blur.
