Landscape: Activity 5

Create a landscape utilizing foreground subject matter to create a sense of depth. Discuss how the resulting image is likely to be read by the viewer.

This photograph utilizes the foreground subject matter in a less traditional way. The water and the leaves closer to the lens of the camera make the roots and rocks seem farther away, and those make the trees in the background seem even farther away. If the whole of the picture were taken all as a background with no foreground, there would been no sense of depth, and the viewer would not be able to tell how far away the water and roots/rocks were from each other.
