Landscape: Activity 4

Create two photographs in a location with tall buildings or trees using both formats. Create a closed and open landscape at one location. Discuss the different ways we read the resulting images.

This first photograph is encompasses closed landscape for many reasons. The trees frame the subject and give the photo a sense of involvement, where everything seems in place and in order. There is a specific main subject and while the surrounding landscape exists, it does not take away from it.

Unlike the closed landscape photograph above, the closed landscape gives no specific focus. The landscape is wider and vaster and does not have any one specific main subject within it, and one could interpret many possible subjects.
