Portraiture and Studio Photography: Activity 1

Look through assorted media, magazines, internet and collect four portrait photographs. The environment should be a key feature in two of the four images. Describe the subject’s character in each of the images. What can you see within each image that leads you to these conclusions about the subjects’ character.

In this photograph, it is clear that the girl, the subject, is enjoying herself. Despite how cold she might be, she enjoys the snow and playing in it. It seems like she's very in touch with nature and the outdoors, and likes to spend time in the fresh air because of the enjoyment and tranquility she seems to get from being in the snow.

The man in the photo at the right probably takes his job very seriously. It seems like he's concentrated in his work, which most likely takes a lot of focus. Although I am unsure what it is that he exactly does, judging by the portrait and his job, he seems to like to work with his hands.

In this portrait, I feel like the girl seems like she's shy, but on the inside she's actually very outgoing. Half of her face is hidden behind the leaves, which shows her timidness, but she has very exciting makeup/eyeliner on, which means she might have an exciting personality despite her outward appearance. Also, she probably likes the outdoors.

Alon Lax

The little girl in the photo at the right seems like she really enjoys what she's doing. She's smiling brightly and handing on the playground, which means that she loves to play, and probably in the outdoors, too.
